He Is Forgiving Us Exodus / Leviticus (Selected Passages) Goodness of God—What He Does (Actions) Who He Is (Attribute) - God is good because He is HOLY - We are NOT This is why His Forgiveness is so important -God is good by providing the way for sinful man to live in relationship with Him! God is good—He shows us His love even though we are sinners God calls us to love Him and obey Him - Exodus 19:1-7 - You have seen what God has done. - You have been protected and provided for. We must respond to God’s call - Exodus 19:8 - We will do all that the Lord has spoken! - They did not —We do not! - They sin and rebel just as they already have. - Remember their grumbling and complaining. - They worship the golden calf (Exodus 32) God reveals how forgiving He is - Exodus 34:6-7 God forgives all our sin - Iniquity: moral failing - Rebellion (trespasses): willfully and knowingly disregarding God’s standards (laws/boundaries) - Sin: missing the mark (falling short of the glory of God) God is good—He shows His plan to deal with our sin -Sinful man needs a way to approach a Holy God. - Exodus 40:34-35 - Moses is outside the tent. - the tabernacle was the “tent of meeting”. - Leviticus teaches how sinful man can approach a Holy God 3 Dimensions to the Book of - Leviticus Ritual (sacrifices) 1-7, 23-27 Priesthood 8-10, 21-22 Purity 11-15, 18-20 Leviticus - Ch. 16-17 Day of Atonement Sin cannot just be “forgiven”—there must be “atonement” for sin - Jesus became the perfect sacrifice for sin. - Jesus is the High Priest who has ripped the curtain of separation. - Jesus is our Righteousness. When you follow God’s way you know have relationship with the Holy God. (remember that at the end of Exodus Moses was on the outside of the tent) - Numbers 1:1 Next Steps: - Are you on the outside or the inside? - Is Jesus your Savior and Lord? - Have your sins been forgiven and atoned for? - 1 John 1:7 “the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin”
