He Is Faithful “Redemption” Genesis 12:1-8 Metanarrative - Creation - Fall - Redemption - Restoration GOODNESS OF GOD—HE IS FAITHFUL . God keeps His Word. . God keeps His Promises. . God cannot do otherwise! . He is Good—He is Always Faithful! Abraham’s story matters to us: - We learn that God’s goodness (in his faithfulness to keep his Word) is not dependent upon our performance. - Abraham is talked about in Hebrews 11:8-12 (“by faith”) - Scripture says that “Abraham believed God and it was counted as righteousness.” Genesis 15:6 Romans 4:22 Galatians 3:6 Genesis 12:1-8 - God promises to make Abraham into a great nation. (v. 2) - God promises to make Abraham’s name great. (v. 2) - God promises through Abraham all the families of the earth will be blessed. (v. 3) - God promises to give Abraham’s descendants the land. (v. 7) Here’s where we see the faithfulness of God— None of the promises made to Abraham had anything to do with his performance. - We have times when we have faith and trust! - We have times when we doubt and lack faith! Abraham has faith and trust: - to go when God calls Abraham has doubt and lacks faith: - when he goes “down” to Egypt - when he lies about Sarah (twice) - when he takes Hagar to have a child God is always faithful to His word—He is good and keeps his promises! - Psalm 145:13 - 2 Timothy 2:13 - Numbers 23:19 There are conditional promises in God’s Word—they usually have “if / then" - 2 Chronicles 7:14 - Matthew 6:14-15 God is good—He is faithful! - God made a covenant with Abraham and He was faithful—father of a great nation. - God has made a covenant in His Son Jesus—all who come to Him will be saved and part of God’s great family!
