Series: Acts STEPHEN…AN EXAMPLE OF BEING LIKE JESUS Acts 6-7 GROWING IN THE CHARACTER OF JESUS Acts 6:3, 6:8 - Jesus was full of the Spirit and wisdom. - Luke 4:1 - Luke 2:52 - Stephen met the requirements for being chosen to serve. - We can be filled with the Spirit and wisdom as we grow to be more like Jesus. GROWING IN THE WISDOM OF JESUS Acts 6:9-10 - Stephen was fulfilling what Jesus said would happen in the future. - Luke 21:12-18 - Wisdom is a person — Jesus! - Allowing Jesus to live through us is what empowers us to accomplish God’s will for our lives. GROWING IN THE SUFFERING OF JESUS Acts 6:11-15 - There is blessing in being falsely accused and persecuted for Jesus’ sake. - Matthew 5:11-12 - Stephen’s face is radiant as they speak falsehood about him. v. 15 - Moses’ face shone because he had been with the Lord. (see Ex. 34:29-35) - Psalm 34:4-7 GROWING IN THE WORD OF JESUS Acts 7:1-53 - Stephen’s message pointed to the truth of Jesus. - John 5:39-40 - John 5:46 - The story of Scripture is ultimately the message of Jesus. GROWING IN THE LOVE OF JESUS Acts 7:54-60 - Stephen was prepared to give his life for the sake of the Gospel. - Stephen’s words sound much like the words of Jesus from the cross: - “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!” - “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” - Jesus said there is no greater love than to give your life for others.
