CREATED TO WORSHIP COUNTERFEIT WORSHIP Romans 1:21-25 Counterfeit worship flows out of counterfeit living. We are created to worship God so worship of any other is a fake. Counterfeit worship is an issue of the mind and heart. Romans 1:21-22 - Not worshipping and honoring God begins with distorted thinking. 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 - Not worshipping and honoring God also begins with a darkened heart. 2 Corinthians 4:6 Jesus said that the “religious leaders” were worshipping in vain. (Matthew 15:7-9) - they gave lip service but their hearts were far from God Counterfeit worship is an issue of two foolish and idolatrous exchanges. Romans 1:23-25 - We exchange the eternal glory of the uncreated God for the temporary glory of the created man. - We must deal with the idols of our hearts on a daily basis. - God is immortal and only he can give immortality to mortal man. - We exchange the eternal truth of God for a lie. Counterfeit worship seeks to rob God of the praise He is to be given. - This was Satan’s tactic in the very beginning as he lied. See Genesis 3:1-5 - The eternal praise of God will be forever and the lies of Satan will be exposed and done away with forever. Any sin problem is ultimately a worship problem.
