Putting Our Position Into Practice

JESUS ABOVE ALL PUTTING OUR POSITION INTO PRACTICE Colossians 3:5-11 — Our position in Christ means he has cleansed from the filth of our sin. — Our practice must never be to go back to our old way of life. In Christ: We were buried / We have been raised (2:12) We died with Christ (2:20) / We are raised with Christ (3:1) We put off the old self (3:9) / We put on the new self (3:10) We are now “clothed with Christ” That is our position—we have put on the new self! Galatians 3:27 Romans 13:14 We still must practice our new life—we must take off the old self! We must Seek and Set (3:1-4) Because we still live in a fallen world with a fallen sin nature we must die daily to self and sin. Romans 6:6-7 Galatians 2:20 We take off all sinful desires - Colossians 3:5-7 God gives us the ability to die to sinful desire. (Romans 6:11-14) Sinful desire in our life amounts to idolatry. Our life should have a change from what was before Christ. We take off all sinful actions - Colossians 3:8-10 The Bible helps us see the “what” and the “why” of life change. What: get rid of all sinful actions in our life. (3:8) Why: we put off the old self and have put on the new self (3:9-10) We take off all sinful attitudes - Colossians 3:11 In Christ there is no room for pride and an attitude of superiority. there is no superior country Greek and Jew there is no superior creed circumcision and uncircumcision there is no superior culture barbarian and Scythian there is no superior class slave and free Next Steps: Begin each day this week remembering that you are clothed with Christ—don’t get your clothes dirty.
