The God Who Lives in US THE SPIRIT’S EMPOWERING PRESENCE Acts 1:1-8 Jesus reminds the disciples of the promise of the Father. - Acts 1:4-5 God sent an historic event as a sign of His Word and Work. - Pentecost was a sign that the Spirit was given — Acts 2 - Bethlehem was a sign that the Savior was given — Luke 2:11-12 The disciples ask a question that reveals a misplaced focus. - Acts 1:6 Jesus had taught many times that He wasn’t coming to set up an earthly kingdom. - Their question made the work of God all about them. - “God I want your power and presence so that you will _________” - God what are you going to do for me. Jesus responds so that the disciples will have a proper focus. - Acts 1:7-8 Jesus made it clear that God was going to do something much greater than an external, visible, earthly kingdom. - He would provide an Empowering Presence that would bring an internal, invisible, heavenly kingdom that transforms our focus. - Our focus should no longer be “God what are you going to do for me?” - Our focus should be “God what can I do for you?” - We should not build our doctrine out of the Book of Acts. - We should build our desire there! - John 14:12 Next Step: - What would it take for us to have a desire to see God move in a mighty way and use us like never before to see lives changed and His kingdom built?
