No King - Sermon Series Samson: The Consequences of Compromised Consecration Judges 13:1-5 Judges 13:18 Bible Project Judges Overview: https://youtu.be/kOYy8iCfIJ4 “Beyond Understanding” = “Wonderful” - from Isaiah 9:6 - Wonderful Counselor Nazarite Vow - Numbers 6 - No wine or other grape products - Not to come in contacts with corpses - Not to cut the hair on their head The Compromise Compromise #1 Judges 14:1-4 Every compromise or near compromise reeks of the stench of arrogance What compromise says is “My consecration to the Lord is less important than my sinful desire.” Judges 14:4 The takeaway here is NOT that the ends justify the means. It is that the sovereignty of the Lord will not allow the sinfulness of man to derail Him and His purposes. Compromise #2 Judges 14:5-9 Compromise #3 Judges 16:1 He was masquerading around as a Nazarite while living like a Philistine. Compromise #4 16:4-18 Each time he toys with Delilah about the source of his strength he gets closer to compromise. The Consequence 16:19-30 Was Samson’s hair the source of his strength? “Not that his hair made him strong, but that his hair was the symbol of his consecration, and was the pledge of God’s favor to him. While his hair was untouched he was a consecrated man; as soon as that was cut away, he was no longer perfectly consecrated, and then his strength departed from him.” - Charles Spurgeon How aware are we of the presence of God in our lives. V.20-22; v.28-30 Samson: A flawed deliverer who, because of his compromise, lost his consecration and paid for that with his life. Jesus: The perfect deliverer who, because of His consecration, gave His life to pay for the compromises of the whole world. Next Steps: - Repent of the areas of compromise in your life.
