HE REMAINS FAITHFUL No King - Sermon Series Judges 3:5 Bible Project Judges Overview: https://youtu.be/kOYy8iCfIJ4 When we look at the Book of Judges it should disturb us. - It should disturb us because it is full of violence, wickedness, and bloodshed. - It should disturb us because it is a reminder of our current day. - It is what happens when we live with no King! - Everyone does what is right in their own eyes. When we look at the Book of Judges it should encourage us. - It should encourage us because even when we are faithless God remains faithful. - God is calling us to faithfulness in a day of compromise and disobedience When we look at the Book of Judges it should teach us. Four things we learn about God’s faithfulness from the first three judges: - Othniel - Ehud - Shamgar (mentioned briefly with no details) - Deborah God is faithful to teach us and then put us to the test. Judges 3:1-4 - He teaches us to depend upon Him (verse 2 teach them about war—depend on Him/trust Him/have faith) - He tests our faithfulness and obedience Matthew 25:21 (this is Jesus teaching the parable of the talents) Luke 16:10-13 (Jesus again teaching a parable about being faithful in little things then entrusted with more) God is faithful to empower us for the task. Judges 3:9-11 - God provides what we need to accomplish what He desires. - We have God’s Power. - His Spirit lives in us and enables us to serve and witness. Acts 1:8 - We have God’s Protection. - His Armor is clothing us. Ephesians 6:10-18 - We have God’s Weapons of Warfare (Ehud had a knife he used/Shamgar used an oxgoad/Jael used a spike) - 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (our battles are not physical—but Spiritual) God is faithful to use women (and men) to accomplish His plans. Judges 4:1-5 “God uses women in key roles in His work. There are at least 22 individuals or groups of women in Judges, and 10 of these have speaking parts.” - Deborah was one of three prophetesses named in the Old Testament. - The others are: .. Miriam (Ex. 15:20) .. Huldah (2 Kings 22:14) - The New Testament names Anna (Luke 2:36) and Philip’s four daughters (Acts 21:8-9) as prophetesses. God shows us women of faith and courage next to a man without faith. - Barak would not go to battle if Deborah did not go (ch. 5:8-9) - Jael drives the tent peg through Sisera’s head. God is faithful and worthy of our highest praise. Judges 5:1-3 - We should praise Him for the victory He has brought to us! Psalm 40:2-3 Next Step: - How will you trust your King’s faithfulness this week?
