“The Storyteller" THE UNFORGIVING SERVANT Matthew 18:21-35 Jesus is not teaching a lesson on salvation and the possibility of losing your salvation. Jesus is clearly teaching a lesson on mercy and justice. Why? - We love to receive mercy when it comes to our own life. - We love to dispense justice when it comes to someone else’s life. SCENE ONE: An Extraordinary Display of Forgiveness -v. 23-27 The Impossibility surrounding the servant’s debt: - The amount of his debt was nearly incalculable. - The amount of his forgiveness was almost inexplicable. SCENE TWO: An Unbelievable Display of Unforgiveness - v. 28-31 The comparison of debt amounts was extreme. - The depth of forgiveness demanded a demonstration of thankfulness. - Jesus expects us to realize what has been done for us. SCENE THREE: A Righteous Display of Justice Imposed -v. 32-34 Forgiveness received demands, for forgiveness be released. Matthew 5:7 Matthew 6:12 Matthew 6:14-15 - Jesus makes a strong and clear statement at the end of his parable. (v.35) Next Step: - Is there anyone in your life you have not forgiven? Remember how much forgiveness you have received and go and forgive!
